Uptown condo

We live in a 1 bedroom, 1 ensuite bathroom condo in an 1890's building on the historic St. Charles Avenue car line. It is the oldest street car in North America.

The shared front porch is spacious. The condo has original hard wood floors, tall windows, high ceilings and soft natural light.

The home is located inside the city just six miles from the French Quarter in the Uptown/Universities neighborhood known for its stately old houses, evergreen gardens, majestic live oak trees, and parks. The streetcar (trolley) passes just a few steps from the building and goes through historic neighborhoods on its way downtown and to the French Quarter, the center of the city's cultural life. Take the streetcar to the Quarter in the afternoon, stay for nightlife - and a cab ride home is about $15.

A 24-hour pass for unlimited travel on streetcars and busses is $3.00.

Dining, shopping, coffee houses and exercise are also within walking distance of the house. It's three blocks to historic Audubon Park with its world-renowned zoo and swamp exhibit.

New Orleans - famous for music, cuisine and joie de vive - is a romantic and unique city. Some say it is not an American city, but a Mediterranean-Caribbean-African mix that has resulted in a culture and approach to life unlike any other. It is a favorite stop of European visitors who find it to be something different and authentic in the U.S.

Outdoors activities are outside the city and are focused on wetlands adventures, including kayaking and canoeing in the surrounding cypress swamps and river basins; airboat tours; and world-class fishing (everything from tuna to tarpon to bass).

While in town visitors can enjoy walking along the Mississippi River levee or just strolling the neighborhoods and French Quarter.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Louis Armstrong International Airport - 16 miles

Our quiet residential neighborhood is just three blocks from historic Audubon Park and it's a short walk to the Mississippi River. Close to both Tulane and Loyola Universities and the Loyola Law School is on the other side of St. Charles Avenue. The oldest street car line in North America passes down St. Charles Avenue, just beside our building. Can walk or take the street car to restaurants and entertainment. The Freret bus is four blocks away and is a short bus ride (or walk) to the Freret business corridor.
