Neighborhood

About the neighborhood

Killiney is one of Dublin's most exclusive residential areas on Dublin’s South Coast. Famous residents include U2 members Bono and The Edge. Our home is located only 5 minutes walk from glorious Killiney beach, where you can swim, walk and take in the view. If you would like to see some Irish countryside, the Dublin Mountains are within walking distance. Trains to Dublin's city centre leave from the DART station, 10 minutes walk from the house. The trip takes 35 minutes.
There are pubs and shops 5 minutes walk away from our house in Ballybrack village. If you want a wider variety of shops and restaurants, you can get the DART along the coast into the quaint village of Dalkey (3 minutes), where there are loads of great restaurants, coffee shops and pubs. You can also explore features of the fortified Castle, including the ‘murder hole’ for wannabe medieval CSI fans.
The Victorian seaside town of Dun Laoghaire(10 minutes on the DART) also has a wide range of services and amenities. Here, you can visit the James Joyce Tower, one of a series of Martello towers built to withstand an invasion by Napoleon. It now holds a museum devoted to the life and works of James Joyce, who made the tower the setting for the first chapter of his masterpiece, ‘Ulysses’. You can walk the promenade, jump into the sea at Sandycove or the famous ‘Forty Foot’ bathing spot, or indulge yourself with one of the equally famous (in Dun Laoghaire anyway) Teddys’ ice creams. You can even get a ferry to Britain for a day, or a weekend.
If you fancy a stretch, activities such as golf, fishing, hiking and horse riding are available only 10 minutes away by car.
Dublin’s historic City Centre, is only 35 minutes away by the DART train service. Here, you can explore attractions such as Trinity College, home of the ‘Book of Kells’and the Guinness Storehouse, birthplace of Ireland’s iconic beer. Temple Bar, offers a myriad of cultural and gastronomic delights. For the culture vulture, the National Concert Hall, the National Gallery and numerous Museums and Theatres are within walking distance in Dublin’s compact city centre. Shops  such as Kilkenny Design, Avoca Handweavers and Brown Thomas offer excellent retail opportunities and will arrange tax-back facilities if you are on holiday.
You can see deer at one of the world’s largest City Parks, the Phoenix Park. While there, be sure to visit historic Dublin Zoo, one of the oldest in the world.  There are some fabulous tours as well, including a ‘Ghost Bus’ and the ‘Viking Splash tour’.
Finally, there are numerous Festivals on in Dublin such as Temple Bar Circus Festival, Bray Summerfest, Celtic Music Festival and a Summer Festival Series at Leopardstown Horse Racing Course, to name just a small selection.
Ireland is small, you can drive coast to coast in 4 hours, so most of the attractions of the country are only a few hours drive away. If you fancy seeing Newgrange, constructed over 5,000 years ago (about 3,200 B.C.), making it older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt it is only 2 hours drive away. The Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, Killarney, Croagh Patrick,  and the vibrant cities of Cork, Galway and Belfast are all great options for a weekend away.
Killiney is a lovely part of the world. If you have any questions, or would like to see it for yourself !! , please contact me. Of course, we will reply to all messages.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon...
Kevin

This was our first exchange in our life’s but I hope just that. Because it was an amazing experience. Kevin made everything very easy. His house was a shown in the announcement and everything was great. I would repeat again and again if I could. Thank you for this amazing trip that we won’t never forget. :-)
