Welcome to the capital of the Black Forest, very close to France and Switzerland
NO OFFERS FROM SPAIN AT ANY TIME - Thank you.
We have a townhouse, situated on a slope, with a small garden in the sunny and beautiful southwest of Germany. From our home it is only 10 minutes by streetcar to the historical center of Freiburg (founded in 1120) with its many medieval sights, museums, parks and other places of interest. A 25-50 minute ride by car to the east takes you to the beautiful Black Forest with its numerous sights and hiking trails and to Lake Constance (2 h, panoramic view of the Alps). Kaiserstuhl, the famous wine-growing district and European bird sanctuary, with its quaint little villages and unique sunken paths in the loess as well as picturesque Alsace (e.g. Colmar, Strasbourg) are about 20-60 min away in the west. Le Corbusier's famous chapel in Ronchamp (UNESCO world heritage site) can be reached in 90 min. To the north there are a number of castle ruins (10th-15th century), the world’s best amusement park, Europa-Park (30 min), and towns/cities like Baden-Baden (65 min, thermal springs), medieval Gengenbach (50 min), Karlsruhe (85 min, baroque castle), world-renowned Heidelberg (2h) and Stuttgart (2h). Heading south there is Markgräflerland, another well-known wine-growing area (30-45 min). Visit the small medieval town of Staufen at the foot of a castle or enjoy a bath in the hot springs of Badenweiler. To Basel (historic old town, famous museums, zoo) in Switzerland it is less than an hour by car.
Needless to say that our region is known for its good food and wine and also for its typically German „Gemütlichkeit“ (sociability).

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
We live in a dead end which means that there is not much traffic here. On the other hand, our house is next to a railroad track where freight trains pass now and then. All the windows facing this side are new (2017) and sound insulating. Three of our bedrooms face the garden side.
Our house from 1987 has been modernized and renovated frequently, mainly by ourselves. Living and dining room have underfloor heating and were refurbished in July 2020, including new floor tiles. We have four bedrooms on three floors with screened windows. Three bedrooms have single beds and our large attic room (renovated from top to floor in January 2020) has a double bed (140x200 cm / 55x79 inch). The kitchen offers a big fridge, microwave oven and all the appliances you might need. We have free WiFi throughout the house. Our neighbors are very friendly and helpful.
A large supermarket and all sorts of stores and facilities are within walking distance (5-7 min) as well as German, Italian, Turkish, Asian and Greek restaurants.
Public transport in our region is very good. There is a streetcar stop just around the corner.
In case we should fly, we have a 2021 BMW 118d with automatic drive for your use here.
Five airports serve our area, depending on where you come from:
Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, France (50 min by car)
Karlsruhe-Baden Baden (60 min)
Stuttgart (2h)
Frankfurt am Main (2h40)
Zürich, Switzerland (1h40)
Shuttle buses or trains are also available.

Angelika and Scott are very friendly and reliable. From the beginning, we had an uncomplicated exchange via WhatsApp or phone. Their house is well prepared for guests, the information concerning their home and the beautiful surroundings was correct and of great help so that we could really enjoy our stay. Therefore, we can highly recommend an exchange with Angelika and Scott.
Pam and Axel made us feel like friends from the start of our conversations about an exchange. Their home was very comfortable with a lovely garden, a great place to relax, after a day of sightseeing. We really enjoyed the location of Freiburg. It’s a great starting place for touring the Black Forest and so much to see and do in and around the city. Great transportation with the tram and bus only a 5 minute walk from their house. A great place to spend your vacation, we highly recommend it.
We spent a wonderful time in Kathy and Ron‘s house. It was welcoming, clean and tidy. Furthermore, Calgary and the Rocky Mountains were simply overwhelming and absolutely worth any visit. Our communication with Kathy and Ron was and still is uncomplicated and nice. Thanks so much for an unforgettable vacation in Canada‘s beautiful west.

Together with our two sons, Max and I made several home exchanges with Intervac partners from the USA, Canada, France and England between 1998 and 2004. In 2018, we took up house exchange again and have always enjoyed this way of traveling. In summer, we usually prefer going to northern regions, but e.g. Florida and California are always an option. Our sons are grown up and do not live with us anymore. However, one of them might like to join us once in a while.
Children from about age 7 are welcome to our house.
