Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
We live in a quiet part of the city with nice, friendly neighbours.
A supermarket and many shops and businesses (including McDonald’s) are within walking distance (10–15 minutes). Plenty funny activities are available in Bretteville too (Fun Park Festyland, Trampoline park, brand new bowling, laser game, escape game).
The city centre of Caen is just 5 minutes away by car or 15 minutes by direct bus. There is a very nice cycling path too going to Caen, you caen join the city in 25-30 minutes.
There is direct also access to the motorway towards Brittany or Paris.
Our house is located only 30 minutes by car from Ouistreham port, 1 hour 30 minutes from Mont-Saint-Michel, 1 hour from Rouen, 25 minutes from Bayeux, and 40 minutes from the American Cemetery in Colleville. Cherbourg and its Cité de la Mer are also worth visiting (aquarium, the submarine Redoutable, and the Titanic exhibition).
We highly recommend visiting Swiss Normandy, where you can hike, cycle, go canoeing or kayaking, or simply enjoy a picnic.
You can also reach the beaches by bike (a cycle path runs along the coast, with wonderful views guaranteed). There are many different activities on the coast (in Ouistreham, for example), as well as several casinos.
Our beautiful region is full of surprises. Do not hesitate to ask—we would be happy to help you organise your trips. We provide a guide with our family’s best tips, written in English.

We swapped places with the Lucas family for 2 weeks. We felt very comfortable in the lovingly furnished house. The neighborhood is very quiet and friendly. A sports field only 5 minutes away was perfect for our children. We had a very pleasant communication with the family and can only recommend an exchange.
We had such great holidays in Bretteville-sur-Odon! The house is situated in a quiet neighbourhood, is very well-equipped, soo cosy and styled with love and care. Our whole family immediately felt at home and enjoyed playing and relaxing in the wonderful garden. Caen is a beautiful city with lots of things to do and perfectly located if you want to explore Normandy - within an hour's drive you can visit almost all the highlights. The Lucas family have given us many valuable tips and great suggestions. We are so happy for the hearty and warm communication we had with them! Back home, we found everything in perfect shape and can only highly recommend exchanging with them!
A very nice family, their house is a great place for exploring Normandy

Easy-going family with strong values
We are a happy family of four. Martina is Czech, David is French, kids are bilingual.
We are very friendly and respectful. We care about our planet and about our house and garden. We will take care about yours too.
We are now used to exchanges with Intervac and we can't really imagine another way of travelling.
We appreciate hiking in mountains but we like city life too.
We don't have animals but kids like taking care of animals (cats, hens), it's not a problem for us.
Sometimes Martina's parents or her sister can join when travelling when it is possible as they don't see each other very often.
