Medieval Kilkenny, Ireland's Ancient East - Beautiful, peaceful home in countryside - Looking for summer 2025
Beautiful, peaceful home near historic medieval marble city of Kilkenny. Gateway to Ireland's Ancient East. Our home is extremely quiet and it is located in an rural area but conveniently only 2 miles from the castle in Kilkenny city. We are within easy distance of all conveniences, Mount Juliet Golf Resort (6 miles) and we are connected to the whole of Ireland by direct motorways (we live just off the M9).
Our car: The car we offer is an automatic Mercedes CLK200 (seats 4) with a large trunk. We also have a BMW 3 Series manual-shift. Both are right-hand drive. We will insure you to drive the car.
Description of our home:
It is 28 years old and is quite spacious...over 3400 sq.ft... with all the usual appliances, a sun room/conservatory for those rare (!) periods when the Irish summer fails to sparkle, has a large front and back garden, and is situated in a rural area minutes from Kilkenny City. Further details of our home are on this website and more photographs are also available if desired.
We have 6 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms: Downstairs has the master bedroom which is a king bed with ensuite walk-in shower, 1 large queen and 1 single. The main bathroom is downstairs. Upstairs we have 1 large queen, 1 smaller double and twin beds in our study with a shower room.
- Downstairs we have a sun-lounge/conservatory, formal lounge and dining room, family tv room and upstairs is the study/home-office.
- New handmade custom kitchen installed in 2018 with all Neff appliances and stone worktop. We have a Nespresso machine, induction hob, double fan-oven/grill, and a separate utility/laundry room with washer and dryer.
- We have a large garden front and back (that will be cared for while you visit) and also a large patio. We have a new dining table and six chairs which can be shaded under a parasol, and a new Weber gas barbeque with all the tools.
- We have multiple flatscreen tvs with full cable channels, AppleTV, Netflix, fiberoptic high-speed broadband and an iMac computer for your use.
Description of Kilkenny:
Kilkenny is an ancient medieval city, small in population (18,000) yet very well catered for in terms of shopping and entertainment. It is a very popular tourist destination and boasts one of the finest castles in Ireland. The countryside around is pastoral, and within an easy drive of many historical attractions, Rock of Cashel, Kells, Jerpoint, Mount Juliet, Dunmore Caves, with the Waterford and Wexford coasts an hour away. Really attractive mountains and hillwalks - The Galtees, The Comeraghs and the Wicklows - are again but an hour distant. Dublin City is reached by 1 1/2-hour train from Kilkenny.
Kilkenny is also connected by new motorways direct to Dublin and Dublin Airport (which takes about 1h20m) - it is a fantastic location for commuting and escaping to the rest of Ireland. Also, due to our easy distance to Dublin Airport, you can take very short and inexpensive flights, courtesy of low-cost carriers, to the likes of London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Rome etc if that is something you would enjoy. Of course Ireland has so much itself to offer.
Kilkenny was named as the friendliest city in Europe 2012. Kilkenny is a foodie-destination boasting excellent restaurants including 2 Michelin Starred restaurants. About the neighborhood
The Lonely Planet states: "Kilkenny is the Ireland of many visitors' imaginations. Built from dark-grey limestone flecked with fossil seashells, Kilkenny (from the Gaelic 'Cill Chainnigh', meaning the Church of St Canice) is also known as 'the marble city'. Its picturesque 'Medieval Mile' of narrow lanes and historic buildings strung between castle and cathedral along the bank of the River Nore is one of the southeast's biggest tourist draws."
